Inspired by a collection of shells I have from a beach in Le Lavandou. Their ornate delicate forms litter the golden sands in this beautiful region of The South of France. So tiny that at first you don't notice them underfoot, but once you do, their splendour and sheer variety compel you to collect them.
Here are my scanned hand drawn illustrations.
I wanted to create the same dense coverage the shells actually have on the beach in my repeat pattern. Once I’d used image trace, I re-coloured the shells and spread them all over the tile.
