I think this is a great way to develop a painting habit and get the creative juices flowing. It definitely helps push you through the blank page syndrome.

I would love to be quicker at coming up with ideas, so the ten-minute rule idea is great. The down side of this is that I panic and end up drawing a giant ice-cream cone falling on a tiny sidewalk, or an octopus/alien with an apprehensive expression. See photo for details!


For my first set of shapes, I used only paint. I used microns to doodle on the second set. I love drawing on top of watercolor for some reason.

I'm planning to use shapes for a daily painting practice. Thanks again for the ideas and the class, Amarilys! Your work is amazing and inspiring.
