Saturday Brunch Smorgasbord

My favourite morning ritual as of late is spending Saturday brunch with my boyfriend. I spend my weekdays working in a small city and travel back to Toronto in time for the weekend, which leads to a busy and often hectic schedule. Saturday is the first morning of the week to sleep in and wake up relaxed, and our brunch routine follows suit.

The cafe within the Drake Hotel has become a staple in our household, whether someone is grabbing coffee and bagels to go, or we venture out for a sit-down brunch affair. This particular day we chose to sit inside at a booth that has become our regular spot; it’s a long three-top tucked into the corner facing the bar and a beautiful marble-tiled wall. I like to enjoy an americano while deciding on meals and watching the coming and goings of the place. I’ve heard the Montreal-style bagels and cream cheese are both house made, and are among the best I’ve eaten, so we decide to base the meal around the bagel. What results is a veritable smorgasbord of breakfast favourites: apple-sage sausages, bacon, and spicy root vegetable hash accompany our bagels and cream cheese, which we lazily munch on while deciding what to do for the rest of the day.
