Sanibel Toile de Jouy

We recently spent two weeks in the Cape Coral area of Florida.  We took a little drive out to Sanibel Island which was just beautiful and my inspiration for this pattern. The kids enjoyed collecting seashells on a nearly empty beach with just us and some birds.

We live in Germany, but I am originally from the US so it was great to have a few weeks back home...although I didn't grow up in Florida I have a lot of family living there now.

I saw Bärbel's class on Facebook and knew I wanted to try it. Making this pattern would take me entirely outside of my comfort zone as I always think "I cannot draw, I am a doodler. " But I really wanted to give it a go! So I first watched Bärbel's other class, Artistic Illustrations. I then decided to give it a go and indeed my drawings have more of a doodle feel, but I think that makes them mine. I went slightly untraditional by adding a bit of texture to my Toile.

About my motifs, I have the Sanibel Lighthouse, my kids with their seashell treasures,  palm trees from my cousins house, and a sweet bird that followed us along the beach.
