Sample Project

Sample Project - student project

This sample project will give you an idea of how to complete the assignment.

You don't have to wait until everything is done to show us your work. Begin by collecting inspiration and uploading it here. Interesting color combinations can come from anywhere; it might be a bowl of fruit or an evening thunderstorm on the horizon. Look at artists you admire and think about how they use color in their own works.

Once you've given it some thought, decide on your two color palettes. Each one will be a JPEG or PNG image that you'll upload here, consisting of four squares that represent the colors in each scheme. Download one of the Photoshop character templates attached to the project description and apply your palette to the line art!

Here's my default scheme for this example assignment. I'm using blue and orange as the main colors here. They're complements, so they create a very noticeable contrast in the character at a glance.

For my second scheme, I'm also using a complementary combination -- namely, green and red-orange. However, because they're so desaturated, the visual contrast is much more subtle. The colors are closer to the warm end of the spectrum, with light green being the "coldest".
