Sample Project

Well, if you watched the videos then you know just about everything about my book already. But when making my book I decided to feature my Instagram photos from my Alaska trip.

A year ago, in August 2014, I went on an Alaskan cruise with my wife and her family. We flew into Vancouver and boarded a cruise ship that sailed up the coast of Alaska making several stops along the way. It was very relaxing, and I highly suggest visiting Alaska and traveling by cruise ship because it makes getting from city to city very easy.

I'm not a super great photographer but have been working on my skills in the past year. I shoot with my iPhone 4S because it's always on me, and you can get surprisingly great photos with a mobile device.

I selected 10 of my favorite photos and printed them at 4" x 4". The photo quality was a bit disappointing as I printed them at Walgreens and while you can get quick prints in a pinch, you don't get great prints.

Book Sizes:

  • Photos: 4" x 4"
  • Page: 7" x 8" (1/2" spacing on left, top, and right of the photo)
  • Textblock strips: 21 3/4" x 8" (that's 3 pages per strip with a 3/4" tab)
  • Cover: 7 1/4" x 8 1/4" (this leaves a 1/8" overhang around the textblock)
  • Cover paper: the same size as the Cover, but with 3/4" tabs added

Materials:

  • I used a laid paper that came in super large sheets for the textblock. Check the last photo below and you can see the ridges in the backlit paper.
  • Chipboard for my book covers.
  • A chevron pattern natural paper for the cover paper.
  • PVA glue from Hollander's
  • Awesome Instagram photos!
