Salon + Spa

Groove Jet Salon + Spa Business Model

Groove Jet Salon + Spa has been in business since 1997.  We are a full service salon that provide hair, nail, skin and massage services.  We employ stylists, nail technicians, estheticians and massage therapists.

Our guests are both male and female from 12-80+, but most fall in the late 20s to mid-40s age range. Our hair service guests seek our hair services for a new look or to maintain their current look.  Our spa service guests seek our spa services to resolve a skin or body issue or to maintain their skin or body relief.

There are several difficult parts of running a salon/spa:

1.  Retaining our guests

2.  Hiring/retaining excellent service providers

3.  Competing with discount salons/spas

4.  Effective marketing to reach new guests

We are unique in that most salons or spas in our area are not full service.  And we are the only full service in the downtown area.

Freelancing vs. Entrepreneurship

I just hired a manager who has a cosmetologist license, has been working in the industry for the past 5 years, really understands the business and is great a reading people who fit in our culture.  She is great with handling our various artist personalities in the salon. We are working hard to establish defined processes to ensure the salon runs efficiently, which included hiring processes.

My promotion is to be able to take time off and know the salon is being managed appropriately. With an excellent manager in charge, I sleep much easier at night.

We are still figuring out best advertising methods and ads to bring in new guests and to keep our regular guests.
