Sailor Girl

Please excuse the poor quality of my work. Because I only have the trial version of Illustrator, I had to submit scans. Ugh!

My mood board began with the idea of creating a girl character with a cute sailor dress. I found so many cute nautical things on Pinterest.

My color palette began with navy, pink and tan. As my character evolved I decided to make the pink a more coral color and she became a blonde.

I had no prior experience with Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop so this class was a real challenge. Shelley has been awesome to answer questions and even helped me with some computer issues which resulted from only have a trial version of Illustrator. Thank you so much, Shelley!  You rock!

I chose an I-phone case with a navy background from Zazzle. It was so much fun to see my design in an actual product. I can see how being able to show my clients an actual pic of their character, on the product of their choice, would help with sales.

One of my favorite things about Shelley's class is her teaching style. It felt like I was learning from a friend! She explains things so well.  I also loved having a project at the end of the class instead of an artboard full of miscellaneous shapes. I would recommend this class to anyone wanting to learn simplifed digital drawing and also anyone who wants to learn the basics of Illustrator.

Second Project:  I decided on this character based on a friend's granddaughter, Paisley. She just turned one and loves to fill her hands with everything in sight!

My third project is a gift for a bridal shower. Sorry this looks crooked!  The actual piece is perfectly straight!
