Reykjavik

This summer I spent a long weekend in Iceland, based in Reykjavik. I spent a full day and night wandering the very walkable city and making notes in my guide book. Iceland's a hot travel spot right now, so I want to make a map of the places I liked to share with friends who are planning trips there.

Here's my marked up guidebook map:

  1. Why am I making this map? **I'm making this map to showcase the places I liked in Reykjavik, so I can point my friends and other people traveling to enjoy them as well

  2. Why am I the expert to create this map? **I collected recommendations from 3 people who had visited the city, plotted all their suggestions, then added some of my own discoveries

  3. Who is my target audience? **Friends and friends of friends

  4. What level of detail do I need to include? (Names,
addresses, contact info, street names, website,
hours, descriptions, color coding etc.). **Will show names and major street names (not minor ones). Also some landmarks and geographical features, but overall design should be pretty simple.

  5. Do I want my final project to be printed or digital?
How is it going to be used/ held? What other
constraints do I need to keep in mind moving
forward? (Note: type can be smaller on printed maps
than when viewed on web).  *It's going to be digital - who knows, maybe I'll find a way to host it and make it more interactive online with links.

  6. “Dear classmates, I need your help/expertise/
guidance on how to.....”  **Work out the design. I've got the content ready but am new to illustration and design so am not sure how to go about it (what programs to use, what colors to use, etc.)
