I really poured my heart into this one - taking at least 3 weeks to work through this class! Thank you Dylan for your amazing teaching skills as always.
For my project I decided to paint locations around my neighborhood in Chicago, Ravenswood. I did the local grocery store (Marianos), an eclectic restaurant called Band of Bohemia, the Ravenswood metra station, and the Deagan clock tower. Here are some quick reference photos:
To tie them all together, I thought it would be fun to include a pop of color in each image. Each image also has handwritten text and is vertical. Below are the thumbnails I worked on and some textures.
I went through several drafts, taking notes on what I liked, didn't like, what needed to be added or changed.
In the end I'm pretty happy with 3 outta 4 of them! So I'll call it a win. And if you're wondering why some of my postcards appear smaller than others, you're not crazy - I apparently don't know how to use a ruler very well. lol. I apologize for the crappy photo quality too, my scanner died on me just when I needed it.
Ravenswood Station: I love the texture of the ground here, the plants fading into the wall, and the cute lights.
The Deagan clock tower: I love the angle of the clock tower and the shadow over the front view. Not thrilled with my "tree" but oh well.
Band of Bohemia: I actually like my handwriting on this one and the yellow door. I was pleased with the texture on the ground and the smudges I incorporated on windows.
Marianos: This is my least favorite and I may end up re-doing it again. I think it's a little boring and needs more interest. Or, I could really just focus on the cylinder front of the building and crop out the rest of the building to the left.
