Quinoa and Tea When It's Cloudy

For my morning routine, I've captured a cloudy Saturday morning out on my apartment balcony. Now that the weather has turned cooler, I'm really enjoying the comfort of tea.

First, I took my morning outside to really make the most of morning light! Then, inspired by Adam's shots, I grabbed a nearby book and opened the pages to provide some visual interest. In Snapseed, I brightened the text and the tea using Snapseed, then also de-saturated the spoon. You can probably tell I also added that sweet F2 analog look in VSCO. The perfectionist in me wishes the handle and spoon were just a smidge more parallel, but I'm loving this shot.

The truth is, I just have to start my morning with food. This Saturday, I went the savory route, and warmed quinoa with pea shoots, feta, and a lemon-tahini dressing inspired by this 101 Cookbooks salad. So delicious. I couldn't quite sharpen this image to the clarity I wanted—it doesn't feel as dramatic as the previous photo—but playing around with brightness was a good learning experience. I kept thinking about Adam's advice to keep an equal distance between objects for a clean, geometric aesthetic.

For my last image, I went back to the tea. I played with shooting the mug and the side of the tin, but ultimately I loved the monochrome look of this overhead shot. You get the texture of the concrete floor, washed-out wooden bench, and smooth metallic lid. It's crazy how just a few Snapseed tweaks and that F2 filter transformed this into something I really love.
