Quiet (final?)

4/2/13

Sorry that it has taken me so long to update my illustration. I've added subtle texture to all of the vectors and added noise to get a more gritty texture. I added a ground plane, but I thought the illustration looked better without it. I felt that it made the illustration feel more open and whimsical. I don't know if this is the very final version of this illustration, but I am happy with what became of it.

I mainly took this class to learn how to incorporate textures and patterns into illustrations. Although I've been experienced in Illustrator for years, I still had much more I wanted to learn. This class was a great learning experience for me and I really enjoyed it! I've already signed up for 3 other design classes, so I guess you can say I'm addicted.

Thanks for all of your feedback! It was really great to receive suggestions, encouragement, and advice on my work.

This is the latest version I've been working on with the smoke. I think I like where it is going. It feels a little more balanced than the other version with more trees. Still looking forward to adding textures.

Here is the work in progress. Still playing around with colors/ shapes and will be adding textures.

i'm having some trouble with the smoke from the chimney....haven't quite figured out how I want to portray it yet, so I'm playing around with a few options (will picture the options soon).

When I created a word list for the word quiet, the three words I used to lead my drawing were:
Tranquility, nature and alone.

I decided to take a more abstract approach with this illustration than I normally do. I want to challenge myself to create work in a style that I am not used to. I know my sketch is a bit rough and I can already tell that I will be moving and changing things around.

I plan on using textures, shading, blending and other techniques that I hope will make this piece feel more complete.

I think I'm also going to draw a loud version. I'm really excited about this whole process and adding color and dimension to my work!
