"Purple Rain" + "Un-baked Potatoes" | Skillshare Projects

"Purple Rain" + "Un-baked Potatoes"

I'm so excited about this project!

Making my own collage was far more fun than I expected. It was also a great exercise in reigning in my perfectionism and learning that "less is (often) more".

"Purple Rain" - Purple cauliflower, fennel flowers.

I didn't expect to find much colorful produce in New York at this time of year, but a beautiful bunch of purple cauliflower heads proved me wrong.

I had a small space to work with (sigh, NYC) so I decided to keep this piece simple and focus on different sizes / shapes of cauliflower. I added a few sprigs of fennel flowers -- one of my favorite recent discoveries. The little yellowish pods taste like sweet bursts of absinthe in your mouth!

"Un-baked Potatoes" - Various baby potatoes, sour cream, chives, English farmhouse cheddar.

This was just supposed to be a bonus for funsies, but it might actually be my favorite of the two.

Despite my search for vivid colors, I was helplessly drawn to this beautiful array of baby potatoes. Things that are brown and gnarly are beautiful too! I decided to make a "deconstructed" baked potato collage with all the fixings: sour cream, chives, and a farmhouse cheddar cheese.

There is something strangely freeing about splattering your coffee table with sour cream.

I hope you love this project as much as I loved making it!
