SPIKE (CONT’D) (CONTD)
I wonder how long she will wait?
WALLY
She won’t have to wait long...

Hi, Wally, It’s Jennifer.
WALLY
Hey, I was just about to call you.
Spike and Tony start clowning Wally and making sexual positions and noises.
JENNIFER
What did you say?

WALLY
That wasn’t me, sorry, noisy around here.
JENNIFER

WALLY
You ass-holes!

INT JENNIFERS BEDROOM

JENNIFER
Hello?
INT BETHS BEDROOM

BETH
About time bitch!, The phone must have rang at least 8 times!
JENNIFER
I had another call.
BETH
Not your army boy I hope
JENNIFER
What if it is?
BETH
A little beneath you I think.
JENNIFER
I like him, he’s nice and he has great shoulders.
BETH
Whatever, I need a ride to Georgetown.
JENNIFER
Manny can’t take you?
BETH
I am meeting him there, Can you take me or what?
JENNIFER

JENNIFER
They guy at the Register is super cute
BETH
I don’t think he’s available
JENNIFER
Why would you say that?
BETH
Just look at him, Nice hair, fashionable clothes and manicured nails. Gay. Gay. And more gay. All the cute guys are gay.
JENNIFER
You are so wrong Beth. Just because he has manicured nails doesn’t mean he’s gay.
BETH
And he works in a dress shop....
JENNIFER
It still doesn’t mean he’s gay.

Jennifer and Beth look over and see the employee filing his nails.
BETH
See Jennifer? Gay.
JENNIFER
Beth this is the eighties not the fifties. You are hopeless.
Jennifer and Beth are walking on the sidewalk and arrive at Jennifer’s car - a 1982 Pontiac Fire-bird.
JENNIFER (CONT’D)
You sure you don’t need a ride home? I have a little time before I meet Wally.

INT MANNY’S APARTMENT HALLWAY
Beth walks down a clean Hallway. There is smoke coming from under one door. She heads toward it and knocks on the door.
INT MANNY’s APARTMENT LIVING ROOM
Manny is on the couch picking on a Guitar with a cigarette hanging from his lips. There is a frisbee full of green leafy substance and a medium size bong on the coffee table. There are wine bottles stacked in the corner along with pizza boxes. Manny hears the knocks and keeps playing. The knocks continue.
MANNY
(getting up)
Alright, alright, I’m coming!
BETH
Can’t you hear me knocking?
MANNY
Everyone in the building can hear you knocking.
Manny sits back down on the couch and starts to load the bong
MANNY (CONT’D)
You got the money?
BETH
Is that all you want?
MANNY
...You got it or what?
BETH
Most of it..
MANNY
What do you mean - Most of it?
BETH
The “Hero boy” doorman that live over Poseurs are late.
The door opens and Tim steps into the doorway dressed in boxer shorts and a suit jacket. He is lighting a cigarette and is followed by two half naked girls behind him.
TIM
Did you say the Hero boys are late?
BETH
They said they would have it this evening.
TIM
Great, I am sure they won’t mind if we pay them a visit.
BETH
We?
TIM
Oh, yes my dear - you don’t want to miss this.
EXT GEORGETOWN
Manny , Tim and Beth drive through the streets of Georgetown and park outside of Poseurs
TIM
Wait here for 5 minutes and then come upstairs.
INT HEROBOY APARTMENT
The apartment is sparse. A bookshelf made with cinder blocks, a small TV and a medium size boom box with casette tapes strewn around. There are empty Chinese takeout food containers on a small coffee table. There is a poster of Bruce lee on one wall and poster of Farrah Fawcett on another. Danny is on the couch half naked making out with a girl on the couch.
There is a knock at the door
GIRL
Who is that?
DANNY
Nobody, ignore it.
The Knocking continues
GIRL
Shouldn’t you get that.
DANNY
Don’t move I’ll get rid of them.
Danny gets up and answers the door. Manny barges in.
GIRL
Screaming
DANNY
Bad move man
Danny punches Manny in the face twice and then backs up and gets ready to kick him. Manny catches Danny’s kick and tackles him down to the ground. Danny turns and is up on his feet with his back to the door when Tim easily comes from behind and get Danny in a headlock. Manny gets up and punches Danny in the stomach and then the face. Danny slumps to the ground.
TIM
(to the girl -still screaming)
Would you please shut the fuck up or I will give you something to scream about.

The girls stops screaming.

That’s better, now get your shit and get the fuck out of here. See what happens when you get so excited?
DANNY
What do you want man?
TIM
I think you owe someone I know some money.
Beth walk in the door.
DANNY
Man, I was going to pay her tonight.
TIM
This isn’t American Express mother- fucker. You pay now or maybe you can pay some hospital bills.

DANNY
Okay, Okay Man. Whatever you want.   Moneys under the couch!
TIM
Great! Wasn’t that easy. Everyone is happy now. Beth Gets paid, Manny gets paid. Everyone is happy. Danny - are you happy?
DANNY
Yes, yes I am happy.....
TIM
Great! Everyone is happy! Happy, happy, happy. Wait. No, Not everyone is happy. I’m not happy. It doesn’t make me happy to change my schedule. It doesn’t make me happy and come down to this shit-hole. It doesn’t make me happy when some low life date raping hero-boy bouncer buys my product and decides he can pay whenever he wants. Maybe I should be working for you. Maybe you think I am some sort of bitch.
Tim goes crazy and kicks Danny in the ribs over and over before grabbing him by the hair and throwing him down the stairs.  Tim reaches in his jacket pocket and pulls out a cigarette and lights it.
TIM (CONT’D)

Who’s hungry?
EXT POSEURS STEPS
Jennifer is sitting on the steps reading a book. Wally pulls up on the scooter and stops.
WALLY
Get on!
JENNIFER
Where are we going?
WALLY
You’ll see!
EXT DC CITY STREET AND THE MALL - NIGHT
Jennifer is sitting on the back of the scooter as Wally drives through the city to the Mall past the monuments finally arriving at the steps of the Lincoln memorial.
EXT LINCOLN MEMORIAL - NIGHT
JENNIFER
Wow, I haven’t been here since I was a kid in grade school.
WALLY
Our company runs by here a lot in the morning.

JENNIFER
That’s a pretty long way from your base at Fort Myer.
WALLY

Never seems long when you are singing cadence and running in formation.
JENNIFER
What songs do you sing? Sing one for me!
WALLY
You don’t want to hear  that..
JENNIFER
Yes I do, C’mon sing one for me!
Wally and Jennifer walk up the steps of the Lincoln Memorial as Wally sings some cadence to her.
-WALLY
C-130 rolling down the strip, “airborne daddy” gonna take a little trip. Stand up, hook up, shuffle to the door! Jump right out and count to 4! 1-2-3-4!
JENNIFER
That sounds like so much fun.
WALLY
Keeps your mind off the running - that’s for sure!

Wally and Jennifer arrive at the top of the steps. They get closer and closer until they are almost in kissing range.  Wally shy’s away at the last minute.

WALLY (CONT’D)
I think Lincoln was my favorite President
JENNIFER
Why?
WALLY
Maybe it was the movies I watched about as a kid but I think mostly because he held the country together when it was falling apart and fighting each other. No other President had to do that.
JENNIFER
Some people believe he could have saved the country without going to war but I think he was a great President too, who really loved the idea of America and was willing to do anything to save it.
WALLY
I would have done anything to be with you tonight.
JENNIFER
Anything?
Wally is close and about to kiss Jennifer when he is interrupted by a tourist asking for directions.
TOURIST
Do you know how to get to the Washington monument?
WALLY
Big white pointy thing over there.
TOURIST
Oh, Thanks (walks away)
Wally turns back to Jennifer.
JENNIFER
I’m hungry!
WALLY
Me too, let’s go get something to eat!
Wally and Jennifer skip down the stairs.
EXT STREETS OF DC
Jennifer and Wally are riding through town.
JENNIFER

WALLY
My friend told me about a great restaurant. Ethiopian I think. You eat with your hands.
JENNIFER
That sounds messy.
WALLY
I’m pretty sure they give you plenty of napkins.
EXT ETHIOPIAN RESTAURANT - NIGHT
Wally and Jennifer pull up in front of the restaurant. There is a long line outside.
JENNIFER
Looks like a long wait.
Wally goes to the line and talks to the host and comes back to Jennifer who is waiting on the scooter.
WALLY
They say its a two-hour wait.
JENNIFER
It’s okay , there are lots of restaurants around here.
Wally and Jennifer are walking through the streets. They are walking side by side and their hands are close -almost touching. Wally makes an attempt to hold hands when the “complement man”  bursts in.
COMPLEMENT MAN
(with his hand out for money)
You are so beautiful.
JENNIFER
Excuse me?
COMPLEMENT MAN
I’m the compliment man. (His hand still out)I give out compliments for free but you are welcome to tip.
Jennifer smiles and looks at Wally.
COMPLIMENT MAN
You all look really nice tonight.
I really like those shoes. Love your shoes!
JENNIFER
(still looking at Wally) Thank you...
The two keep walking and the compliment follows
COMPLIMENT MAN
I really like you hair. You have the most beautiful locks.
Wally reaches into his pocket and pulls out a dollar
COMPLEMENT MAN
Why thank you for this amazing dollar! I suspect I can almost buy a cup of coffee.
Jennifer looks at Wally again and he pulls out another two dollars from his pocket and gives it to the compliment man.
COMPLIMENT MAN
Ahh. Thank you so much! You both get home safe!
Wally and Jennifer continue walking down the street when they are stopped by the “Rose Nazi” a older short , European  woman with a pack of red stemmed roses waiving one in her hand.
ROSE NAZI
Rose? Rose? Rose?
Wally grimaces. Jennifer grabs Wally’s hand and pulls him past.
JENNIFER
I know a place we can go. Open all night and never a wait.
WALLY
Lets get of here quick!
The two turn around and run smiling through the streets past panhandlers on every corner back to the scooter.
ROSE NAZI
Rose?
EXT WASHINGTON DC STREETS
Wally and Jennifer are on the scooter. Jennifer is driving.
WALLY
You ever drive one of these before?
JENNIFER
Nope, first time.
WALLY
Your kidding , right?
JENNIFER
Yes I’m kidding. We rent these all the time at the beach in Florida.
WALLY
I’ve never been to Florida
JENNIFER
It’s awesome. My parents take us to the beach every Summer.
WALLY
That’s gotta be better the Fort A.P. Hill.
JENNIFER
Where’s that?
WALLY
In the deep jungles of Virginia. They are sending us out there for maneuvers and training next week.
JENNIFER
Wow, how long will you be there?
WALLY
Two weeks.
JENNIFER

Jennifer and Wally walk over to the Hot dog stand where Manooch is handing off a dog to a hungry customer.
MANOOCH
Oh I remember you!
JENNIFER
Give me two manooch specials!
MANOOCH

JENNIFER
You have a great memory Manooch
Jennifer hands a hot dog to Wally who takes a bite.
WALLY
This is amazing!
JENNIFER
I know right?!
WALLY
How did you find this place?
JENNIFER
I am transferring here to George Washington University next year. I came here for an interview and everything was closed except for Manooches hot dog stand.
WALLY
Good thing you weren’t transferring out of state.
JENNIFER
Why?
WALLY
I mean, I ‘m just getting to know you and... I never would have found Manooch hot dogs on my own.
Jennifer leans over and kisses Wally on the cheek.
JENNIFER
You are sweet. My cute little Old Guard. I think we are going to be great friends.

EXT. WASHINGTON DC AT NIGHT
