Pumpkin King

Pumpkin King - student project

To burn, or not to burn - that is the question.

I've chosen my object.

I've made my fire replacements. I'm going for a spooky green flame. I've used card and clear green plastic. Really looking forward to seeing what this looks like in motion.

I've set up my shooting space and I'm testing my fire replacements. I'm pretty happy with how they've turned out.

For my second test I tried adding some light to the flame. I used a torch/flashlight directed at the middle of the fire. It really helped to brighten the flame and adds a nice flame flicker effect.

I've got my smoke ready. Everybody knows green fire makes purple smoke.

Here's my finished animation with fire and smoke.

It's been a lot of fun to make and I think it looks great -

I really like how stylised the finished result is, it's a believable fire but on close inspection the handmade nature shines through. That's the magic of stop-motion. I'm looking forward to experimenting with more materials using this technique. This class is perfect for animators wanting to add fire to their films.

Thanks for the great class, Laura!
