Pulp and Kitsch and Garbage

Pulp and Kitsch and Garbage - student project

Thanks so much for this class! It really made me feel liberated to do the things I really liked, which is, to summarize, "pastels, gothic shit, and cryptids."

When I started out with my boards, I putzed around until I came up with this final hot mess:Pulp and Kitsch and Garbage - image 1 - student project

I was a bit manic when I made my summary list. I'm not going to get rid of the all caps, because I honestly was very excited about it:

BRIGHT COLORS BRUH BUT ALSO BLACK A LOT

HEROES & VILLAINS

TALKING ANIMALS

SASQUATCH & SHIT

ALSO OLD-TIMEY CRANKY PEOPLE WITH NECK RUFFLES & SIDBURNS AND WHATNOT

PATTERNS

RAINBOWS YEAH I SAID IT

HALLOWEEEEEEEN ALLLLLLLL YEEEEEEAR

PULP & KITSCH & GARBAGE

SASS-MOUTH

... Sorry you guys had to read that.

Then I did Me-On-A-Plate:

You might notice the very-1980s influences of TMNT and Michael Jackson. I feel that the self-portrait of myself as Leah-nardo was particularly inspired. Also, my dog DOES make an excellent problematic pop artist.

And then Things Got Real:

Sasquatches & Yetis making peace! Nude leprechauns!

Cute necromancy! Vermillion, Godzilla's boyfriend!

A bat so nice I tweaked it twice!

And some cryptids with Care Bear tummies! (Technically, non-bears are Care Bear Cousins. Distant cousins).

This was a lot of fun, and really got me thinking about what mattered to me as opposed to what I should be doing to better myself, or whatever it was I was doing before. SCREW IT. We're going cute and neon!
