Projects

I have always loved Betsey Johnson's pink dining room that was featured in Elle Decor in 2007. I love the use of bold SOLID colors, the mixture of eras of furnishings. I also really like the focus on texture and materials, as opposed to just flat pattern to make the space feel really present and alive.

+ I love the Knoll chairs with the cushy upholstery!

INTRODUCTION

My husband and I live in a early Craftsman house (circa 1907) in Angeleno Heights, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Our goal is for the house to feel like a funky luxury hotel and for it to be a great place to entertain. + We would like to get it Apartment Therapy worthy in next year or so!

We are really into using bold solid colors throughout our house. We like to combine Edwardian/vintage furniture with Hollywood Regency. Our color palette is pretty 1970's.  We know that we need to start introducing more pattern into the house, but we don't want it to compete too much with our art collection or peace of mind.

+ We don't have that many objects to style with because we have been working so hard at de-cluttering the house with a professional organizer! We may need to start collecting more "things" we like!

BEFORE PICS - COUCH & COFFEE TABLE

Right now we have our living room & dining rooms switched. Eventually, after we install central heating/air,  we plan to move all this furniture into the front room which is a lot larger. We have a group of 10 people over for TV night once a week and it is very cozy!

Couch: Room & Board (yellow), Cisco brothers (gray)

Pillows: Trina Turk

Shag Rug: IKEA

Coffee Table - (3) end tables/stools from India

I didn't want a traditional big heavy coffee table. I wanted something more sculptural and focal in the room. I liked the idea of having multiple small tables, because our space is pretty tight right now and it allows us more flexibility when entertaining.  That being said I usually keep them cleaned off so that we can sit thing on them as needed. It is an interesting challenge to to have to have to style such small tables!

BEFORE PICS - BOOKCASE

This is the bookcase in my studio/home office which is in a seperate building in the back yard. It acts as a credenza / layout space / landing pad for my office so I need to keep it pretty functional and cleared off. I really love having this extra table space!

Here is another book case I want to style, in my front hall.

BEFORE PICS - COLSOLE

This is the built-in in our dining room that we are currently using as our livingroom.

The top cabinet holds extra serving pieces. The drawers are organized with all our housefold office supplies. I am never really sure what to put in the open section. It tends tp fill up with books and magazines. It does have a mirror behind it that reflects light.

BLOG
Time is flying -- I am not ging to have time to finish all these styling projects in such a short class -- but I plan to work on them over the next few weeks and post the results on my blog - PATTY HUME : GROW.
