Pottery Fundamentals: Throw a Vase on the Wheel

Throw your own pottery party!

In this class, we're going to learn how to throw a beautiful vase on the wheel. You will learn how to wedge a piece of clay, center it on the wheel, and pull a cylinder. Then, you'll learn how to form the base and neck of the vase and how to decorate it.

We will also discuss the wheel and the clay I use. You will learn how shape the vase and how to collar it in (or make it narrower). You will learn how to carve and trim the vase once it's leather-hard. I will even teach you how to glaze!

Your project will be a leather-hard (or dry to the touch) vase. Once it's completely dry, it will be ready to fire, and if you have access to a kiln, you can upload a picture of your glazed and fired finished product! I can't wait to see how your vase turns out!

Your Project: A Beautiful Wheel-Thrown Vase

Your project will be a leather-hard, un-glazed vase. Please upload a picture of your leather-hard vase to the project gallery.

Once your vase is completely dry, it will be ready to fire so if you have access to a kiln, I'd love for you to upload a picture of your glazed and fired finished product!

Materials Needed:
