Postcards from here - student project

I am quite definitely a homebody so I decided to draw four views of different windows in my flat where some of my favourite plants live.

What unites the cards: window views and plants as subjects

What sets them apart: different sized arches, various plant species

The thumbnail exercise was very helpful for coming up with a composition that could suit each window view. Luckily, each of the windows are built within an arch structure so I used this to frame each postcard. One idea I had was to write a short description of how each plant grows well in the different light conditions of each window, along with their botanical names in bold writing. I didn't get around to doing it properly this time, but perhaps I'll redo them in the future and incorporate this into the design.

I wanted to practice a bit more with rendering techniques so I took this class, Line Drawing: The Art of Ink Botanical Illustration by Marina Petrenko (https://skl.sh/3cHEISa)

And here are the final versions which I edited a bit in Adobe Illustrator. For now, I chose an old-style font but I would like to do them again with hand-lettering in the future!
