My finished result

My Process...

I started with a royalty free image from  This is an image by Kelly Sikkema that I converted to B&W and cropped.

For my hard mix pattern, I drew concentric circles 10 pts apart until I had a 500px diameter.  After enlarging it slightly and adding a gaussian blur it looks like this:

The darker circle was because I inadvertently drew two circles in the same place.  I didn't realize that until I was posting my project and don't think it has a noticeable impact on the final result so I didn't change it.

When I initially blended it with Hard Mix the original image's background resulted in some visual noise.

For my finished result I added a top layer, filled it with white, added a layer mask to it to hide the "noise" from the original background.  I also added a Hue adjustment layer to colorize the background and adjusted where the circles were centered.
