Pomegranate

I was very inspired by this tutorial and all the tricks and tips, so I could not wait to try them myself. I started with a basic sketch and snapped a photo with my phone (nothing fancy but does the job)

I am used to working with Adobe Illustrator and I was pleased to discover that it has all the tools and options that I needed, only I've never used them before. Things like overlay mode and glow effects are sort of hidden, but work fine.

This is what I've got so far:

Pomegranate doesn't need those dents, but I still wanted to try them and I'm keeping them for texture. I am not happy with the shadow from the top "crown" and I tried sooo many ways of placing it and this is the best I got.

Another hour or two spent on arms and legs and shadows. I really enjoy how the inner glow makes objects pop.

I tried to compose a background for the character, not too happy with it.

After consideration, I realised that my character needs a little more facial features. And a cookie!
