Polar Bear Mama & Baby mark

I got a little confused with the three logo type choices given in one lesson in relation to the 30-day logo challenge, but since we're only doing three logos total, I figured we only did one of the choices for this first assignment. As you will see from my preliminary explorations, I played around with each type and settled on the Pos/Neg logo. I will come back to the other two logos at a later date after the 30-day challenge is over.

I tried the tracing (far right) but wasn't really getting it, so I sketched some ideas of my own (left).

Variations:

I tried incorporating an igloo shape to tie in that this was a Polar Bear, not a Brown Bear. Also so the mama bear could be white.

The bear seemed too thin in v1, so I made her bigger in v2.

The igloo seemed far too huge, so I tried making it smaller.

That wasn't working either, so I ditched the whole igloo idea and just went with the mama and baby bears.

Still not right, so I tried using a shape similar to an igloo and the bears.

Getting there! It was still missing something, so I tried adding eyes.

Voila!

I like how the surrounding black shape echoes the curves of the mama bear. The baby bear is simply the mama reversed out, flipped and reduced. I visually centered all the elements. Mathmatically centering them made them feel unnatural.

Gridding:

I tried to do the gridding, but I'm not sure if I did it right.

Feedback:

What do you think? Feedback welcome. I had a hard time with this in that the simpler you need to make something, the harder it is to do! I think we all know that!

Thanks,

Paula
