Pinkie Brown

I wanted to pick something that is personal to me and as I live in Brighton I chose the name of a character from Brighton Rock, the main protagonist, Pinkie Brown. He's a teenage gangster in the underworld of Brighton in Graham Greene's novel, and I think the contrast of the sweet name and vicious character makes it an interesting project. I wanted the lettering to look like branding as I can imaging this name on a shop or bar.

These are the first experiments in illustrator with colour and then moving into outlines and manipulating the text. I chose a form which reminds me of neon signage and used this by framing the text and making it look a little 80s.

My first trial at putting an image behind - I like it but it's a bit safe looking.

This has more of the late 70s punky look and it brings in the play on the word pinky with the very girly pink and more destruction applied with a custom brush.
