Pink Flamingo

Pink Flamingo - student project

What a fun class. I learned soooooo much. A flamingo has been on my 'to draw' list for some time, so this was the perfect opportunity.

I enjoyed playing around with the colour palettes at the start but none of them really grabbed me.

I decided to start drawing and stick to kind of neutral colours as I wanted it to be quite a delicate piece.

I sort of liked this, but it was when I changed that background colour and decided to remove the edge from the water that the piece suddenly started to click.

Immediately it felt much more contemporary and classy. One of my friends on Facebook even commented on the classic pairing of teal and rose gold (I think it's more like copper myself).

But then you introduced us to the joy of gradient maps and it all went a bit neon.

I think this is a bit too garish for me (well, for this particular subject matter anyway) but I look forward to experimenting with this in the future.

THANK YOU so much for a fantastic class. I enjoyed every minute.
