Pinback Poster

Pinback Poster - student project

My name is Andrew Hernandez I am graphic designer from Houston, Texas.

I chose to design a poster for Pinback who will be playing in Houston in March. I have been very interested in Pinback for a while but even more so after finding out how indept they have gotten with the concept of their newest albumn Information Retrieved.

Here is a look at their new video, which is what gave me a few ideas to go with.

UPDATE Feb 21

I finally got a chance to get some work done on this poster. I decided to go with my third concept. I still have a lot of work to do. I will be adding more of the city scape and also creating my own hand drawn 'Pinback' typeface; I only included the band name (shown below) in order to not leave a big gap of space. Let me know what you guys think. I am not 100% sold on the colors (especially the background color). Thanks again for all the feedback.

Rough Concepts

From some interviews I have read of Rob Crow regarding the recent album, the new album has a secret meaning behind it. (Warning: just my opinion) From what I have gathered I believe it has to do with UFO's and or a government conspiracy/Mystery. I was wanting to go for a "space city" theme (for those out of the united states, Houston is offten refered to as Space city for its NASA program).

Inspiration

These are some examples of the inspiration behind the style that i would like to achieve. A kind of Sci-Fi/ Horror movie poster. I very rarely dive into design that includes illustration but i might get out of my comfort zone and go that route or I might just go with what I tend to do and do a collage type abstract gig poster.

Feel free to leave any thoughts or feed back. Thanks and I am looking forward to seeing the progress and different styles everyone has to offer.
