PinPointing - student project

A customized shopping experience where we recommend products based on a Pinterest user's pins. Simply type in a Pinterest user name and PinPointing will find Zappos products based on their pins.

We built a recommendations engine where we can customize rules to present accurate results. The recommendations need tweaking but even still, we are having a high bounce rate at around 60%. Our goal is to bring this number down and drive more traffic to

This can be for recommendations for yourself or as a gift giving product for friends.

The Map
1. List all major “players” in the system (eg. a marketplace may have two major players: buyers & sellers)

a. Pinterest users

b. Pinterest users' friends

2. List out any selfish reasons why each player would need their contacts/friends to join the service

a. Pinterest users -They want to save time browsing through a huge library of products and prefer to have personalized recommendations presented to them based on their style as defined on their Pinterest boards.

b. Pinterest users - They want their friends to have accurate gift ideas for themselves.

c. Pinterst users' friends - They want to give gifts their friends would like. They can share with their friends to brainstorm group gift ideas.

 3. List out all things you could possibly charge each player for on the service

We don't want to charge for this service.

4. For 2 and 3 above give a very short reason you think the player would be motivated to need their contact or pay for the service

{{see above in section 2 and 3}}

5. a. List the channels (email, facebook, text message, etc.) that you will send your users’ invites through and b. how you will get that contact data

a. Direct email

b. ?

6. Create what those invites will look like
