Pidgin English Co. Signature Tee

Hi Everyone

My name is Olu, I run a brand called Pidgin English Co.

Background

“Pidgin English was the lingua franca, or language of commerce, spoken along the West African coast during the period of the Atlantic slave trade. British slave merchants and local African traders developed this language in the coastal areas in order to facilitate their commercial exchanges”. Pidgin English is now used amongst many African and Caribbean nations as a native form of communication.

The brand was birthed out of a need to fill a void for many youth and young adults in the African diaspora.

Concept

I wanted to create a signature tee that encompasses specifically West African culture in a shirt. One thing that West Africans are know for are their vibrant traditional clothing. Which is normally referred to as Ankara fabric. I encorpaorated ankara patterns into the typeface of Pidgin English on a shirt.

Type of Shirt

100% cotton with DTG used as the printing process.
