The Map
1. List all major “players” in the system (eg. a marketplace may have two major players: buyers & sellers)

  • People who take and caption pictures back and forth with friends
  • People who want to win prizes
  • Businesses sponsoring a caption contest photo

2. List out any selfish reasons why each player would need their contacts/friends to join the service

People who want to take and caption pictures back and forth with friends

  • For users to create photoon strips and interact, they would need additional users on the site. If a user uploads a picture from last night, their friends can upload another picture from the same night and caption it in inline with the original users picture.

People who want to win prizes

  • There is a caption contest that users can enter by captioning our weekly photo. Once they do that, the caption with the most "Giggles" (likes), wins the prize. The more people they can get to log on and vote for their photoon, the more likely they will be to win. This goes to recognition and giving people who like/want to be funny the recognition and validation that what they write is actually funny.

Businesses that want to help promote their business through humor

  • If businesses sponsored a weekly caption picture, they could potentially use the ideas submitted as ad campaigns or at least ideas to start thinking about how to put together an ad for their products/business. They would want to get their users on to a. have as many ideas as possible entered and b. see what their users thought about their product indirectly. The business could do sort of what Doritos did for the superbowl. Use a contest to creat a print add by their own users. Then they would want to promote that the contest was going on and have people log onto the site.

3. List out all things you could possibly charge each player for on the service

We could charge three different ways:

  1. We could charge for businesses who want to sponser a weekly photo for the caption contest.
  2. We could create a store where users could put their picture and caption on a t-shirt/mug/greeting card etc and buy it through us.
  3. We could charge businesses to be on the site to be able to create photoons on any users cartoon strip as a "promoted photoon".

4. For 2 and 3 above give a very short reason you think the player would be motivated to need their contact or pay for the service

  • 2. For the caption contest, the player would need their contacts to log on and "Giggle" at their caption to win the contest and the prize. We could also potentially give the contest winners a badge to display on FB (status/recognition).
  • 3. With enough users, a business would sponsor the weekly caption contest picture if their logo was in the picture. This is direct advertising becuase the users have to stare right at the picture with the ad in it to think of a caption. It's not passive advertising, it's right in their face. (recognition)
  • 3. Users can put their pictures and their captions on any medium to give as gifts or to have theselves. It's an easy way to create funny custom items or just a custom item. The way we can help reate a more viral loop on this is if someone buys their first item, we could give them a few $5 off coupons to give to their friends via e-mail or FB. This could help people log on to the site and use the service. (Money)

5. List the channels (email, facebook, text message, etc.) that you will send your users’ invites through and how you will get that contact data

  • We will send invites to users through facebook and e-mail. If a user logs in with his/her facebook account, we plan to have a "find friends" section where they can go through their friend list and select their friends that they want to send an invite to.
  • If a user doesn't log on with friends, then they can use their e-mail contacts to send e-mail invites to their friends.

6. Create what those invites will look like

Hey John,

I signed on to and thought you'd like it too. You can caption and recaption pictures back and forth with friends as well as enter into the weekly caption contest that the site has. It's a hilarious time. Sign up and join me - it's all free!
