Hey everyone,

I'm a graphic designer with a strong love for photography. For my project I want to make a website in which I can showcase my photography and possibly sell them as well. I have a photography portfolio already in existance that I created through viewbook, but if I can learn how to make my own site it would be way better! I think I'll have more control over how it want it to look and in the end it would probably be cheaper for me. Knowing how to make websites will definitely help me in my graphic design career as well.

Looking forward to this course. I'm excited to finally learn to code. I've been wanting to learn this for awhile now.

Nice to meet you all. I appreciate any feedback or advice along the way and I'll try to do the same for you.

Ok so I've completed the first section of this course. I bought my domain and signed up with Bluehost. I did a lot of research before choosing a host and in the end Bluehost sounded like the best option for what I wanted to accomplish right now. I almost went with 1&1, but after reading all of the terrible reviews about them, I decided not to go with them.

I uploaded all of my files through Filezilla and I was a bit confused at first, only because I wasn't able to find a folder in the remote server section with my url or ftp name. The folder just said "/". When I clicked to open it I found a folder that said public_html. I researched this and it seems that this is the folder I should be using. I uploaded all of my files to the public_html folder and it seems to be working. Hope that I'm doing this right. Is anyone else uploading to a public_html folder?

Here's my website so far:

Ok so I finished the tables, forms and iframes section of this class. I didn't have any difficulties this time.

I made a table for purchasing options.

I also added a contact form and googlemaps iframe.

I added a video on my about page, which I found from youtube's creative commons section. It's a video of orange flowers. I chose to use it because one of my favourite subjects to shoot is nature. The video's a bit large, so hopefully the future exercises will reveal how to format the size.

I also added a links, contact and follow section at the bottom of each page, and I was sure to apply all of the semantics and meta tags properly throughout the page.

Looking forward to learning how to style with css.

................................................................................................................................

So I went through the videos of 2.2 just so that I could really grasp what's going on in CSS. I was able to follow for the most part, but then I got confused when I needed to create a descender selector within one that already exists.

Ex. <section id="details">

<div>
<h3>Contact</h3>
<p>email: <a href="mailto:ashmxphotography.com">[email protected]</a><br>
phone: +1 222 555 5555</p>
<h3>Address</h3>
<address>ashmx photography<br>
Ontario, CAN</address>
</div>

So section already has an id attached to it, and I wanted to create another one for the address section so that I could just style that part, but then I remembered you can only apply one ID, so I created a descender like so:

#details address {
font: normal 12px/1.5em 'Roboto', sans-serif;
color: black;
}

It worked.

I'm also thinking I'm going to drastically resize my photos and video unless that's coming in the next group of videos.

So far so good though. All of the colors and fonts are in place. Have a look if you're interested.
