Photography Workshop Assignment 1

Locations for photos are abundant as I live in Washington DC. There's such a diverse range of things that are representative of the city. I'd like to approach this as a mix of traditional and new, with tourist and local perspectives. I'd also like to show that there is more than the stereotype of slow moving bureaucracy and gridlocked government; the city is energetic and action filled. There are people and communities and not just a faceless flawed system that elected outsiders like to bash.

My areas of DC changed a little for my five favorite photos:

Donuts from Astro Chicken and Donuts Food Truck. DC has a robust food truck community that also reflects the diversity of the city's interests and tastes.

You can see here in the reflection the number of food trucks that gather below the Smithsonian offices at L'Enfant Metro Station.

The Smithsonian gardens that surround the museums still have a very holiday feel and decor to them even though its late January. I loved the bright red color in contrast to the rest of the dead vegetation.

I like the movement of the metro train; though I can see that I probably should have opened up a bit more and used the next shutter faster, or perhaps a lower ISO; the people are not as clear as I would like.  They're obviously moving as the train arrives.

I love the curvature of the Hirshorn Museum. Most tourists don't spend much time there, unless they are into modern art so it's pretty popular amongst local DC.
