PHASE FIVE - additional prints 7 alternate colorways

Still somewhat in the concept stage, but I think I have a good lead on what MY style is! This is the way I draw, and I think it will work well for Focal Point Motifs!

PHASE FOUR - FOCAL POINT PRINTS

And, I thought a more layered piece would be more focal & eye catching, So I added ribbons to my wreaths and the blossoms shapes desaturated, but large, to give the background more depth.

I was looking at my motifs and sketches for my Community Garden concept - I realized that part of what wasn't working for me was the lack of cohesive 'feel' to the elements.
I've sorted some of them by style and I think I will revisit the idea after picking just ONE method.

(not sure why the last one was tiny - here's a fresh rendidtion of my wreaths, i am really liking them on point!

A pattern inspired by Wedding Ring quilts...I think maybe to busy and crowded... I'm not sure the 'rings' stand out enough.

(I added a few non-focal prints, but you can see there isn't a full line yet, just the beginings) :)

PHASE TWO

  • Introduction: My name is Rose, and I live in Colorado. It's beautiful here -almost- all year round. I have always been interested in art, all things art, art supplies, color and plants, all things gardeny...
I have been interested in learning my way around Adobe & vector art for a long time, but it was never very intuitive for me. Photoshop just made sense, but Illustrator...not so much! :P
Bonnie's workshops have enabled me to do So Much in Illustrator! It's very exciting!
Some of my other hobbies include gardening, photography, painting, quilting & sewing.
I think that Surface Pattern Design would be a super fulfilling way for me to incorporate many of my interests - and hopefully assist with the bottom line financially for my family.
  • 3 theme topics for your 3 individual focal point prints - Delft Blue, Comunity Garden, Pantone 2016 & Outlander Inspired are my 3 (4) Collection concepts. I haven't quite narrowed down a focal print for the top 3 yet.
  • 10 descriptive words for each of your 3 themes | inspiration board | sketches
for these, I incorporated all of the above into a moodboard for each Collection Theme. They are still a work in progress, but the ideas have been tumbling around for a little while.

Pattern Design 1

Getting started and deciding WHAT to draw is always the hardest for me. After a day or 2 of being totally stumped and rewatching classes to perfect techniques, I decided I would Just Look Outside and capture or sketch what I found.
Turns out, even in October, there was plenty of inspiration if you just look!

I started by photographing and sketching my loot. Quickly, before there was a hard frost. I used the tracing method, the photo conversion method and also the capture tool by adobe mobile. (love that!)

Sticking with the uninspired theme ;) I captioned my color pallette 'autumn' as a working title.
To get the swatches, I dumped a bucket of leaves on my table and just got to choosing.

This was my simple repeat, using some of my 1st assets. While it isn't particulary amazing or anything, it was VERY satisfying! Years and years ago when Spoonflower was new, I tried to make a repeating pattern and failed. So to see an Actual Seamless Repeat of My Very Own- it was nice!!!

I grouped my motifs, as explained in the tutorial...

This was my large repeating panel. And it must be pretty large, as Illustrator was getting pretty grumpy about even saving it.

I decided to make some coordinating prints as well. I did bunched bouquets, as in the video, as well as a plaid and some free hand dots.

I'm very exciting to learn about Surface Pattern Design. Maybe there's a use for all my doodles after all!
