Patient and family Alumni Leadership

I do not have a start up company to use for this class, so I am using a philanthropy group that I am a founding member of. This philanthropy group is a group of former hospital patients that are looking to give back to support the doctors, staff and patients of Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

The Patient and family Alumni Leadership (PALs) council is philanthropic team of former patients (or family members of former patients) who give back to the hospital, with the goal of enriching the environment and experience for patients and families. Our mission is to empower patients, families, and future generations with the knowledge and resources that promotes philanthropy.

PALs is here to help Phoenix Children's Hospital in a variety of ways. We will contribute by assisting in fundraising events, volunteering with hospital programs, and mentor others about the importance of philanthropy. PALs looks to become an important member of the Phoenix Children's Hospital family.

The Patient and family Alumni Leadership council was created in November 2009 by Brian Bogert, Sarah Maurer, Tiffany Troidl, and Gabe Trujillo - all former patients or family members of former patients at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

Within this past year, we have decided to create online and print collateral such as our Facebook page and Twitter feed. As we continue to build our group, we want to make sure that we are presenting our council the best we can. Hopefully with the help of this class I can help develop strong brand dictations for our council that will best reflect our efforts and initiatives to support PCH.

As we continue to develop our group and become more of a presence in the hospital and in the surrounding community, we will need to develop a strong, unified voice and communication style that will help us showcase our efforts, as well as recruit new members and encourage donations to fund our hospital grant.

PALs - Patient and family Alumni Leadership Fundraising Group

The Patient and family Alumni Leadership (PALs) group is philanthropic team of former patients (or family members of former patients) who give back to the Hospital, with the goal of enriching the environment and experience for patients and families.

Mission:

To empower patients, families, and future generations with the knowledge and resources that promotes philanthropy.

Values

Participation, Children, and Honor.

  • Participation - PALs members empower others to be active in philanthropy by sharing their story, experiences, time and knowledge with others.
  • Children - PALs members will enhance children's lives in our community through charity and mentorship.
  • Honor - PALs members will respect and remember the values and contributions of the Phoenix Children's Hospital family, both past and present.

Goals and Objectives

PALs is here to help Phoenix Children's Hospital in a variety of ways. We will contribute by assisting in fundraising events, volunteering with hospital programs, and mentor others about the importance of philanthropy. PALs looks to become an important member of the Phoenix Children's Hospital family.

Fundraising

An important part of our council is helping to raise funds for the Hospital. Whether we are assisting the Foundation or creating fund raisers on our own, this is integral in helping to promote philanthropy.

Mentorship

PALs is developing a mentorship and ambassador training program for current and past teenage patients and family of patients.  The intent of the program is to teach these teens the importance of philanthropy in adulthood and how to tell their story effectively to benefit Phoenix Children's Hospital.  They get involved in a grant giving process and attend workshops to learn the concepts and allow them to experience the power of giving.

Advising

As former patients and family members of former patients, we have a unique perspective and insight into the Hospital. It is our hope that the council will become a vehicle for change and our advice will be considered in future improvements and additions to Phoenix Children's Hospital.

Volunteering

Being able to directly help the patients and families of Phoenix Children's Hospital is a top priority for PALs. We are here to donate our time and energy for any program or group at the hospital. If there is anything we can do, we are here to help.

History

The Patient and family Alumni Leadership group (PALs) was created in November 2009 by Brian Bogert, Sarah Maurer, Tiffany Troidl, and Gabe Trujillo - all former patients or family members of former patients at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

Constituencies

  • Donors
  • Doctors
  • Press/influencers
  • Potential Members
  • Patients
  • Families

For the donors and doctors, the voice will be very professional and formal. The communication strategy for these constituencies will be used to inform the audience about our group and ask them for donations to fund our grant.

For potential members, patients and their families, the voice will be more informal and conversational. This voice will be used to share our stories and humanize the group so the audience can develop a deeper connection with our group.
