P.S. NYC | Skillshare Projects

The New York City public school system is the largest in the United States, with over 1.1 million students taught in more than 1,700 separate schools covering all 5 boroughs of the city. There are more students in the system than people in 8 U.S. states.

As a parent of a child in the system, I know all too well how confusing it can be. Between cirriculumn changes, school events, standards, holidays, special events, testing info dates, and deadlines, there is a lot of information. And it's not all readily accessible or easy to find, if it even exists online at all.

The current Department of Education website is inefficient and limited, and it it not an especially useful tool for parents beyond very basic information.

The ideas behind P.S. NYC (named after the school labeling method in NYC, which calls schools P.S. (Public School) #) is to create a place for parents and caregivers to find all of the infomation they need regarding their children's educational experience.

I did the whole process with the practice app once. And now I am in the process of doing it again to reiterate everything with my own project. I have just begun, and I am very excited to see where I can go. And especially for the continued education videos and info people are posting.
