I chose an idiom that I had trouble drawing conceptually, so I found myself drawing mostly literal interpretations. The sketch I liked best is the one I've inked over (above).

I used the Blob Brush tool to trace my illustration, and then used the Smooth tool (nested under the pencil tool) to clean up some of the lines as you'll see below.

Since I don't have a laser printer at home, I decided to try making textures with my inkjet printouts. I printed out a couple copies of my design's layers and scratched away with a [closed] pair of scissors and a mechanical pencil holder (no lead). Some extra texture was added to the inside of the crators with a Photoshop brush, but most of the texture was handmade!

I'm definitely interested in getting a blending brush and trying the laser printout texture technique in the future.
