I have always had a passion for graphic design and lettering. I was enrolled to Art Center College of Design, my dream school. I must say it was the best creative environment I had ever experienced. But unfortunately due to unexpected family and financial issues, I had to drop out. My passion for design still grows and now I intend to launch a t-shirt business of typography, lettering, and illustrated graphics. I am greatly inspired my Ugmonk Clothing's style and wish to do something similar but with a more expressive, calligraphic feel.
The phrase I chose is "Once Upon A Time"
I chose this phrase because I feel like all my hardships are in the past, and theres nothing I can do to change it. The only thing I can do to improve myself is start fresh and keep working on a new chapter of my life.
Here is a sketch of my phrase. I had a few ideas using different tools, whether to go brush, pen&ink, or draw the letterforms... or even different styles like blackletter, script, or a serif letterform.
Im really excited about this class!! AGHHHH! haha
Here is a blackletter version I did with Pilot Parallel Pen (6.0). I kinda like this one better.. The "a" looks awkward though. Just messing around, trying to get an idea of how this will look.
3/15/12 // 2nd Draft
Here is my second draft. Went with a brush style script and added some flourishes. I now some of the flourishes are sort of unbalanced, but ill fix it. I wanted to make the flourishes resemble a decorative mirror frame like in the fairy tales. Now that I look at it, it's sort of illegible.. what do you guys think?
