Product name: Ocean World

Describe your product:

We are an exciting technology startup with a mission to build a learning system that is as enjoyable as the best video game and as effective as a personal tutor. Our first product, Ocean World, is an iPad app that will allow kids between grade levels K-3 to learn Math through a variety of games. The lessons taught through these games will cover the entire sysllabus of what the kids are taught at school and moreover the kids would automatically move on to the next lesson once they master a particular level.

Once the kids master a particular level they would be given a jigsaw puzzle and the aim is to finish these various jigsaw puzzles and complete the grade level syllabus ahead of school syllabus. Some of the jigsaw pieces are given when Odinix achievements are shared on facebook.

A certain number of lessons are given free of cost and beyond that parents/ teachers will have to buy additional lessons. They can get more free lessons by sharing about Odinix through email and facebook.

The Map
1. List all major “players” in the system (eg. a marketplace may have two major players: buyers & sellers)
a. Children
b. Parents / Teachers

2. List out any selfish reasons why each player would need their contacts/friends to join the service

a. Children

  • More lessons - The number of free lessons are limited. Repeating the same lessons again and again would be boring. If they realize that they can get more lessons for free, they will share about Odinix.
  • Feedback from friends - If children see that their achievements are praised and “liked” by the friends of their parents, they would feel proud.
  • More achievements -  Some of the achievements are based on sharing about their progress. So more competitive kids will want to get all the achievements and hence ask their parents to share about Odinix
  • More fun - When we have multi-player games, the kids will have more fun when they are playing against their friends. So they will want to invite them.

b. Parents -
the 2 reasons why children will want their contacts to join Odinix

  • More free lessons - Since parents will get free lessons for sharing on facebook or through email, they could reduce the cost and try out the app for a longer time. When we later have our subscription based app, they can get one free month's subscription for each friend they are able to enroll.
  • Feel proud - Parents feel proud when their children are doing good in studies and when their friends come to know of it. So we allow parents to share achievements on facebook.

3. List out all things you could possibly charge each player for on the service
The only thing that we charge for is lessons. We do not allow for ads in our app as our main users are children and we hate to advertise to kids. We also don’t charge for silly stuff like crowns and capes like how many of the existing apps are doing.

4. For 2 and 3 above give a very short reason you think the player would be motivated to need their contact or pay for the service
{{see above in section 2 and 3}}

{{Second week parts}}
5. List the channels (email, facebook, text message, etc.) that you will send your users’ invites through and how you will get that contact data
6. Create what those invites will look like
