November Sketch A Day Challenge

Nov 30: Giving thanks

Tank ... ewe

Thank ... you

Get it?!

Thanks to Ria for setting a fantastic challenge and to everyone else who participated and made me work to keep going!

Nov 29: Full

Look, no pen! Not often I do pure watercolour but I really enjoyed this. You can't beat one of these on a weekend morning!

Nov 28: Lanterns

To be honest, I think this looked better before I painted it but it's all good practice!

Nov 27: Coat

Very quick sketch.

Nov 26: Warmth

Back to the coloured pencils and tried to use all the warm colours.

Nov 25: Hat

I don't think Sherlock had a purple bow ... but it adds a touch of class!

Nov 23: Still

This was a bit of a disaster. I tried to put a wash on later and discovered (again) that the ink was non-waterproof. Definitely not my favourite.

Nov 22: Scarf

It had to be the 4th Doctor!

Nov 21: Cabin

Just pencil

Nov 20: Pie

A bit of a cheat as this is a linocut I did for last year's Pie Night (a gathering of good friends who make and share pies in mid December which kicks off the festive season). But I inked and printed it in my sketchbook so I think it counts!

Nov 19: Spice

Garlic and ginger - my favourites.

Nov 18: Park

One of the most amazing parks is Gaudi's Park Guell in Barcelona - this is the head of the mosaic lizard at the entrance.

Finally got the coloured pencils out!

Nov 13: Leaves

Having done the noun for Nov 1st I thought I'd have a go at the verb this time. You might need to take a couple of steps back to see it!

Nov 12: Apples

I fancied going for something a little less pristine than the standard still life apple.

Nov 9: Season(ing)

I love pepper on everything

Nov 8: Gathering

Oh dear - getting behind. A bit of catching up required at the weekend.

This is my favourite gathering: me, E and the four Oglets!

Nov 7: Home

Well, I know that a home is much more than a house, but my house is a big part of what we call home.

Nov 6: Bonfire

Didn't turn out quite how I expected it to ... but I guess that's what this is all about!

Nov 4: Hay

Squeezed for time again so did this direct from a photo on my phone on the way home on the train. Platinum Carbon Ink Pen for lines and Kuretake Sumi Brush Pen for big blocks of black. Needs a bit of colour but perhaps a job for the weekend!

Nov 3: Colour

I knew I wasn't going to have time this evening so did these 2 over lunch on the iPad using 53's splendid Paper app. I grabbed some primary colours and mixed the secondaries - still trying to get to grips with a bit of colour theory ...

Nov 2: Gourds

I did a few pencil sketches on the train on the way in to work (finding I'm a bit less self conscious about sketching in public!):

Then worked up a composition on the train journey home:

And then did an ink version in my other sketchbook when I got home and added a splash of watercolour (all waterproof ink this time!):

Nov 1: Fall (autumn)

The intention was to have a play with some watercolour and inject some autumn tints but I ran out of time this evening. That will have to wait for another day. The main thing is that I started!

[UPDATE]: When I came to paint today I found out that one of the pens I used didn't have waterproof ink. Not a pretty result. Doh!
