A dear cousin of mine is having a baby girl named Nina. I wanted to make her something cute, and since all we know is her name - she's not born yet - I've decided to make a calligraphic project, because I was taking this class to improve my brush writing.
Sorry about my messy process on this paper, but I had those notebook leftovers and calligraphy takes lots of paper... I also work with lots of layers at the same piece, I think it's easier if I can see the mistakes and the right one at the same paper.
All my black and gray tryouts were made with Tombow pens, and the pink ones were made with a watercolor pen.
This was the first attempt I liked. Still needed to work a little more.
I needed something to make it pop, so I thought about a swash and started trying...
...And then I finally got my simple one.
I just made it look a little more curly, and started tracing my final piece, on watercolor paper.
I wanted to make everything super colorful, except the writing, so I used some watercolor mask to protect the lettering and started adding watercolor everywhere. When I took the watercolor mask off, this is what I got:
Then I framed it! Hope my cousin (and Nina, in the future) likes it!
