Nervous Dog Rebrand

As a lover of coffee, I tend to gravitate towards rebranding coffee shops that I love for class projects like this one. I could've redesigned the logos for my own work, but I'll get to that another time.

Anyway, I settled on a local coffee shop called Nervous Dog Coffee Bar. I've been frequenting this establishment for the last 3 years and it has never let me down. They roast their beans locally, hire college students, and use local, organic ingredients for their foods.

I think their current logo is cute and quirky but I wanted to try to see if I could make a better one. I'm a big fan of vintage design because of how people were able to create interesting images by using type and simple illustrations with one or two colors.

I began this project by creating a mood board on Pinterest. I've provided a screen shot of it below.

After looking over my mood board a few times, I started sketching out ideas for the new logo. I wanted to see if I could blend the old and new one into something cool and unique.

Next, I began going over these in illustrator and playing around with them to see which ones I like the best.

I've begun digitizing my sketches and playing around with fonts to see what works. At this point I haven't done anything too crazy.

After talking to a few of my friends, I ended up narrowing it down to 4 different designs. I began playing around with them to see which one I would go with.

In the end, this is what I decided to go with:

As you can see, I tweaked some things and I'm pretty happy with what I got. I feel like it works well for a local coffee shop. It can even be changed to one or two colors to lower the cost of printing on merchandise.

Let me know what you guys think.
