My work from month 1

My work from month 1 - student project

Hello, my name is David and I like to explore the world of graphic design in my spare time.

In this project I will show some of the results of the exercises.

Day 7 - Line Art

I made a space themed poster with the tips from this lesson. My main subject is the space shuttle with soms spacy elements as supports. The glimp of stars is a pattern used as fill.

Day 15 - Vector Portrait

Drawing portraits was never my biggest strength. I'm not going to reveal who I have drawn, if you can guess it, I am on the right track.

That's it for now, I hope to add some designs soon.

Combination of day 3 and 17: Gradient map with halftone effect

Tried to experiment with a combination of the two techniques.

Day 30 - Torn Paper

I didn't find a matching coffee, yawning, morning blues picture. But I found another picture matching the torn paper effect. The typeface is inspired by some old ads.

For the assignment I first thought of a interesting festival concept and came up with the Anonymous Festival. A fictive event that is secret and mysterious. The gradient map is something I don't usually integrate in my work, so that was the first thing I tried to visualize. I decided to use a close-up face with a gradient map. First I used only 2 colours, but after some alternations decided that 4 colours suited the artwork better. Then I added a white bar, like the black bars sometimes used on TV to mask the identity of a person.

I like the overall look of the result, but I am not really pleased with the pairing of the typefaces. If it was up to me, I only used one typeface, but that wasn't the assignment. Thanks for the interesting course and see you next month.
