My Newest Obsession

UPDATE: Feb 23, 2015

I can't believe it's been a year since I first started my venture into calligraphy. I'm still as obsessed as when I first started! I post my work on Insta now, so feel free to give me a follow! @elisabethavenue

UPDATE: August 8, 2014

Another calligraphy gift now proudly displayed in a dear friend's home all the way in Holland!

UPDATE: July 12, 2014

A wedding gift for a cousin of mine! Done in sepia and gold ink.

UPDATE: June 11, 2014

Some of my calligraphy quote practice. Calligraphy is definitely a practicing skill - I find it makes a huge difference!

One version of this quote, followed by a slightly different version. I like different elements of each!

My first version of this quote:

After completing the last one, I needed to fix some things I didn't like, so I came up with this one.

I just started using the oblique pen (last image and the Shakespeare quote was done with the oblique pen). I find it a little different for holding, but it works better in some ways then the straight holder.

Off to practice some more! :)

ORIGINAL PROJECT: MAY 2014

I've always loved type and lettering - especially if it was done by hand. I am super excited about the fact that I'm learning to create my own beautiful letters!

I could do this all day, everyday!

First marks. I didn't do many of these - too impatient to start the letters! I think I will be going back and trying these over for practice again.

Some lowercase and capitals. I find the capitals harder to make consistent. They always seem to turn out differently.

I tried some quotes but I think I need more practice before they start looking good! :)

Trying different styles...

Trying out different capitals via Molly Suber-Thorpe's book. I like this book for reference!

I'm finding out that most papers don't work well for calligraphy. I'll be sticking with my Bordin & Riley pad for now!
