allow yourself to fail before you succeed

As soon as I saw the title of this class, I knew I wanted to make a poster for Muse. Normally I'm the type of person who cannot pick favorites because there are too many things I like, but when it comes to bands, Muse is hands down my #1 fave, so it wasn't a difficult choice. ;)

The imagery in my design is inspired by the common lyrical themes in their music, as well as the aesthetic of their album covers and music videos. Their music is pretty epic, so I wanted my poster to reflect that. That being said, I really tried to just go with the flow and not overthink things and I'm pretty pleased with the outcome. It's completely different to how I usually work, so it was a lot of fun! I must say, though, I thought that using just three colors (or five, technically) would make coloring easier for me, but it ended up being just as, if not more, difficult to compose as other pieces I've done with a more varied color palette! Haha. Shows what I know. I definitely want to keep using restrained color palettes in the future, though.

I sketched this with blue pencil led and then inked it with a pen nib.

I hope my fellow Muse fans think it does them justice! ;)

Thanks for the awesome class, Jesse!
