I have done a new illustration with this technique using as theme the book "One day in the life of Ivan Denisovich"
Previously on Inky Illustrations....
For this project I wanted to design a postcard/illustration with tools from the Lily Bard series by Charlaine Harris. It's a murder mystery series and the main character is a cleaning lady with a dark past who likes to workout and sometimes has to solve a murder. For the illustration I started drawing the tools that I thought would be interesting and after that I made the textures.
Sketches and marks I made for the project. I didn't use all the marks but I used some of them a few times in different ways.
I tried different compositions in photoshop to see which one worked better.
I used yellow, black, white and grey because I wanted the cleaning gloves to be yellow and the metallic objects to be grey using the black and white for the details, to create some kind of volume and add texture and dirt. In the final version I also added texture to the background because it looked a bit dull with so much white.
This technique is totally addictive. I love how expresive the illustrations are using the marks. I have done a second illustration for the Aurora Teagarden series by the same author using some of the same marks and new ones. For this illustration I tried to experiment a bit more using the drawings that I did as sketches and adding more texture to them.
