Multifaceted Chameleon

Hello!

My name is Ray Mawst. I am a designer working in New York City at a branding agency, and I am interested in improving my illustration skills. I hope to learn some sweet tips and techniques from this class so I can feel more comfortable in my approach to illustration, and hopefully I will walk away from this class inspired to continue pursuing learning illustration.

After doing a bit of research, I decided to illustrate a chameleon. The chameleon is a fascinatingly complex creature, so I figured it would be a great challenge for this class project. To elevate my project to beyond just an illustrated portrait, I asked myself "What else in nature is multifaceted like the chameleon?". I decided that maybe gems and jewles could be a cool way to accent my illustration, since they have many facets and can come in many colors, like the chameleon. I put together a moodboard with some of the words I want to convey with my illustration, and began sketching away.

Here is my refined sketch, I am thinking that once I get into the vector process I will find more places to add gems.
