Keeping track of where I've been and where I'm going next.
Why am I making this map? I have moved around a lot, and I'd like to use myself as my first project. I love planning future trips even if some are just daydream travel and sometimes I forget how much I have already been exposed to. I think it would be great to visualize my motion throughout time and space in my lifetime I see it as a grounding experience. I'm doing this for fun, as gift to myself and to explore something completely new.
Loved the West Wing video, as someone from the southern hemisphere it just did a little something (ehem a lot of something). Also, it made me automatically think of Mafalda (Mundo Quino) from argentina in the following way: http://www.todohistorietas.com.ar/mafalda_frase_1.jpg
She says: " Que habran hecho algunos pobres sures para merecer ciertos nortes" which translates into what have certain poor south's done to deserve certain norths (weak translation sorry :) ). So thats where my mind went with that video. Beyond the political it made me think about accuracy, angles, perspectives.
When I was little growing up in my Caracas apartment size felt different. Being little, the apartment was huge (mind it you it was about 140 square meters). The last time I was in that space (about a 6 year gap) it felt completely different. The apartment became a mixture of memory, the present and perspectives. Where did memory meet the present and what happened when the two met?
To answer the question of Why am I the expert to create this map? In reality, I don't think I'm the expert to create this map. I think I'm a huge part of it but I think the people who shared those places with me make the team of experts for the map.
Yup, so I took the quiz on the Abstract Artists and Bremen Artists - scored 42% really loved the work by the dog Tillmoock Cheddar (those are my kinda colors!) and Abstract Artist Lee Krasner.
Do I want my final project to be printed or digital? How is going to be used/held? What other constraints do I need to keep in mind moving forward? (Note type can be smaller on printed maps than when viewed on web)... I think that if my skills allow it I would like most of it to be hand made and possibly framed or dedicate a notebook to this project. If I can compile all of the hand drawings digitally it would be a blast to play with it and print :) why not?
Considering the amount of information...What level of detail do I need to include? (Names, addresses, contact info, street names, website, hours, descriptions, color coding, etc.). I think I might try to keep it names and dates. On a map key i would potentially add odors (yes describing smells), addresses some contact info (this i'm not too sure of) and color coding. I'm a color person there's gotta be color everywhere on this map.
I'm kind of a perfectionist but because I'm working on it. i'm just going be a child and if its ugly its ugly I'll know how to love it :) Note: I'm working on this project while also reading the Little Prince for the first time in FRENCH! There are some lovely drawings in that book too... No volcanoes in my map for now, unless we're talking about my Costa Rica (arenal) study abroad experience..
Now, time to draw some and post some a bientot!
For next time the pending question is Dear class, I need your help/expertise/guidance on how to.....
