Moomin Forest

Moomin Forest - student project

Love the versatility of the Chinese brush.

I have used it previously mainly for Sumi-e painting. Really enjoyed this different approach.

For my reference image I used one of Tove Jansson's brilliant Moomin ink illustrations. I felt transported in her magical realm while drawing this. Which I guess means that Sumi-e is just one, but not the only way to convey the character of things instead of just their appearance, using this type of brush.

Combining the brush with an ink pen to get the finer details together with how to erase ink out of watercolour paper were also new things I learnt. : )

To finish inking my sketch it took me a lot more than two hours - more like two days : D

But the experience for me was worth it every second. So thank you Yuko for this class! ♡
