Montgomery Street, Newburgh, NY

I had seen these houses many times, either in passing or from a distance, so I wanted to get a closer look. Newburgh is a museum of architecture, its East End Historic District is in the National Registry of Historic Places. So I parked by the Hudson River waterfront and walked up to Montgomery Street to take a look at the early 19th Century homes. They're a perfect example of why it is worthwhile to thoughtfully design something for both form and function. I also walked down the slope of brick road, which has been worn and shifted over years of cars rumbling up and down.
