Monarch Migration in Shenandoah Valley | Skillshare Projects

Monarch Migration in Shenandoah Valley

I took this photo with my new iPhone 6 a few weeks ago on Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, Virginia (USA). The monarchs were migrating south for the winter and there was this great thistle bush with lots of butterflies on it stopping for some food. My wife and I pulled the car over to the side of the road. It was somewhat windy so it took a few times but I finally managed to focus on the butterfly and snapped this great shot.

Following the course guidance I then used VSCO cam to edit the image. I started with the very vibrant Filter K1. I then tweeked the contrast some, decreased the exposure -3 to increase the contrast further and sharpened the image +1 like discussed in the course. I've taken to doing this with all of my photos now. Then I cropped the photo into a square for instagram. This was the final result:

I think it's a great shot that really captured the vibrant colors that day. I hope you agree! - Please 'like' my photo if you do!

THANKS for the great course Dan and Skillshare!
