Struggling with my designs so putting this course on hold until I complete the Learn the Ins and Outs of Illustrator.  See you back here soon.

Well I'm slow as a turtle but really loving this course immenesley. I've been doing my homework and using my special eyes to see colours. Wow. Using this idea when looking at images and imagining my designs with those colours is addictive! I want to try all of my colour likes across all my designs.

So here is my pinterest board with some colours I like.

Hello Everyone. I'm still here. I've been doing two SS courses at once and was getting confused with swapping between subjects so I've been finishing the other one and now I can concentrate on this one.  Getting immersed in one and then having to stop and change was difficult. Note to self: do one course at a time.

Oh! Yip Yay!

I was fumbling around in illustrator attempting to make patterns when...

Not sure if I'm supposed to use this but I've discoverd the pattern > maker under object in cs6. (not sure if this is in prior versions) I love this tool. It solves my exact spacing dilema. I've also discovered how to add a layer of colour and change the colour of my shape.

Here is a pattern I've made using these newly aquired skills.

* It's no mona lisa but I'm so excited with learning to make patterns and maybe there's another beginner out there who will benefit from reading my surface design journey.

Hi!

It's been a long day designing!! A big thank you to Jenna for being a great teacher and helping me with learning the ropes. I'm really enjoying it but it's a steep learning curve indeed!Jenna which version of Illustrator are you using?

Does anybody know - How do you crop in Illustrator cs6 to square off?

Here are my contrasting patterns. Because I couldn't figure out cropping in Illustrator I kind of just hand designed some in non directional ways and tried to use a repeating pattern in others. I did attempt layers. but that is a whole other day of learning and was sent to the scrap heap!!

All of my patterns are made from hand drawn images. I've yet to master making patterns using Illustrator. I kind of feel drawn to making my own images.

{I will be doing the suggested illustrator course of course} : )

Here is a handy vectorizing tool that saves heaps of time turning hand drawn sketches into vectors. It was easy in cs5 but in cs6 things have changed.

Organic/Inorganic

Leafy (I think these would look nicer in a floating pattern)

Soft/Hard

Snowflakes

Diamonds Are Forever.

I've been doing some sketches of my Ittens contrasts.

I'm going with soft/hard, organic/inorganic and curvy/ straight.

These are some ideas that I'll transfer to the computer and hopefully I'll surge ahead tomorrow with my patterns!

ok I'm kind of excited!! I've just created my first 8 spot pattern! then taking it to the next level using the dot, stripe, grid pattern. ...Jenna I'm so new (a beginner beginner) to this I hope you don't mind my slow pace. I really want to get the basics down pat before I move onto the more complex designing. I figured out with my previous problem that it must just be practice practice practice!!! I'm definitely not going to keep up with everybody. But I will get there...

Problem image for Jenna

After a break I regrouped and had another go. This time I realised that I can enlarge the screen area, which let me work on things close up. I made it 1200% and walllah! what do you know... it looks much better now : ) yay!!

On further with the practice when trying to put the rectangle shape over to get the nice grid mine is way out. I'm really bamboozled. Is this supposed to be easy? LOL!  or am I just not getting it?? you can see where I have pointed the arrows. If the first diamond is done properly shouldn't they all line up??
