For this project, I chose to paint the milk thistle. I saw a lot of wild ones in Los Angeles (they are non-native, though). I had a pretty hard time controlling the watercolor with this project. I ended up relying really hard on the color pencil and a lot of gouache at the end to balance out all the values.
I also tried a more simple, minimal approach by painting a California Wild Rose. These are also flowers I see growing in Los Angeles in local parks.
